A water main curb valve, also known as a curb stop box is used to control the water supply from the city water main to inside a home or building. Curb stops are pipes in the ground that allow the Water Maintenance Division to turn the water on or off to your home or business. Please do not try to turn the water off yourself or let the plumber. If you need your water turned off please call the Water Billing Department at 248) 246-3160 to schedule an appointment. Water Billing is open M - F 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Try to work with your plumber to schedule a time so you won't be without water all day. Appointments are scheduled in 2 hour blocks starting at 8:00 a.m.
Emergency Water Shut-Off
If there is an emergency need to turn the water off please call the Department of Public Service at 248) 246-3300 during regular business hours M - F 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and police non-emergency at 248) 246-3500 at any other time. Water personnel will be dispatched as soon as possible to turn the water off at the street.
Curb Stops Sticking Out of the Ground or Broken Cap
If your curb stop is sticking out of the ground causing a tripping hazard or interfering with lawn mowing please call the Department of Public Service at 248) 246-3300 during regular business hours M - F 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and a crew will lower the curb stop as soon as possible.
