Title VI Non-Discrimination
The City of Royal Oak is a sub-recipient of federal highway funds distributed through MDOT. As a sub-recipient, the city is required to comply with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which prohibits discrimination based on race, color or national origin.

From its early settlement, Royal Oak has demonstrated a strong religious heritage. The city’s traditional small-town values are a testament to its religious faith.
Garage Sales
The City does not require a permit for garage sales. Please remember not to place signs in the right of way (between the sidewalk and the curb) and on utility poles. Placing signs on private property is only permitted with the property owner’s permission. Signs must be removed after the sale.
Outside Burning
Royal Oak does not allow outside burning in portable fireplaces or in fire pits, but we do allow people to cook over Charcoal, Propane and Natural Gas. Residents with questions regarding the ordinance should contact the Fire Department at 248-246-3800 during normal business hours.
