Friends of Fungi
There are monthly public walks from April through October. The walks are usually held on the 4th Saturday of the month. For the walk schedule, please visit our Nature Walks Page. The walks are free and preregistration is not required.
Meetings are held in November, January, February & March at the Royal Oak Senior Center beginning at 7:00 pm. There is no preregistration or cost for these meetings. Everyone is welcome.
The Nature Society and the Friends of Fungi will hold a joint session on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 at the Royal Oak Senior Center beginning at 7:30 pm this time only. Most of us know very little about what mushrooms do in the environment. Tess Burzynski, founder of Fungi Freights and Environmental Studio, wants to change that. As she says, “Fungi play a vital role in our environment, holding special relationships with soil and the overall ecosystem.” In this presentation, she will uncover the diverse abilities fungi have and how they connect life on earth.
The Friends of Mycology Club will meet on Wednesday, February 12, 2020 at the Royal Oak Senior Center beginning at 7:00 pm. Mary Fredricks, Nature Society mycologist. presents “What am I Looking At?: How to Use Guidebooks, Keys and Other Tools to Identify Mushrooms in the Woods and Elsewhere.”
