Independence Day

Fourth of July Holiday: What's open? What closed?

  • Friday, July 4: All City of Royal Oak facilities will be closed on Friday, July 4 in observance of the Independence Day holiday. Normal police and fire services will be provided.
  • Saturday, July 5: The Royal Oak Farmers Market is open (7 a.m. to 1 p.m.). The Royal Oak Public Library is closed.
  • Sunday, July 6: The Royal Oak Farmers Market is open for the Sunday Antique Market from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Curbside recycling and trash pickup is delayed one day for those residents whose pick up day is Friday, July 4.
Senior Center

The Royal Oak Senior Center is closed for renovations, including updated bathrooms, new flooring, and more. Staff have relocated to the Royal Oak Public Library to continue to serve you throughout the project.

  • Transportation and travel will continue as usual.
  • ROSES and AGE counseling and support programs will continue as usual.
  • If you're registered for a program, staff will be in touch to update you. We're working hard to find alternative locations for as many programs as possible to minimize impact on services.

The renovation is expected to be completed by August 18. We can't wait to welcome you back into our brighter and better Center! Thanks for your patience as we work to create an improved facility for all.

Help SOCRRA Help Royal Oak

Our community partner in recycling and waste, SOCRRA, is asking for your input through a quick 2-question pulse survey! They want to know:

  • What recycling topics you're most interested in
  • How you'd like to receive info (email? text? social media?)

This is your chance to shape how SOCRRA communicates with Royal Oak residents!

Thanks for helping keep Royal Oak green and informed!

Food Scraps Only

Bring your compost to the WEST porch of the farmers market between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Look for the bright green bins!

WHAT CAN GO IN THE BIN:

Acceptable materials include food scraps, BPI* certified materials, coffee and tea. (Download the Royal Oak Recycling Guide (PDF).)

KEEP THESE OUT!

🚫 Plastic & metal

🚫 Non-BPI certified food containers

🚫 Plastic bags are our biggest problem—please bring your compost in a compostable bag or a reusable bucket.

*The Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) checks if a material can break down safely in compost. If something is BPI-certified, it means it has been tested to make sure it composts properly.
