Get Ready for an Epic Showdown

On Jan. 31, Royal Oak police and firefighters will face off in a charity Broomball Battle at Centennial Commons Park—all to support those in need. Proceeds go to the Welcome Inn Day Center and Outreach on 7th, two amazing organizations helping those in need.

$25 gets you rink-side access to the action and entry to the post-game reception at Lockhart’s BBQ! Don’t miss it—come cheer them on for a great cause! Learn more

  • JAN. 29 at 6:00 AM:  P2 Parking Lot (Green)
  • JAN. 30 at 6:00 AM: E. Third St. from S. Main St. to Knowles St. and S. Troy St. from E. 11 Mile Rd. to E. Third St. (Red)
  • JAN. 31 at 6:00 AM: West Lot of Farmer's Market and South Lot of City Hall (Yellow)

Note: There will be a "soft" close of S. Troy St. at E. Fourth St. during these closures. Local access to businesses will be available. (Orange and White Stripe)

Please plan accordingly.

Black History Month

BLACK HISTORY MONTH IS HERE!  February is dedicated to honoring the triumphs and struggles of African Americans throughout U.S. history. 'Explore Untold Stories of 19th Century African Americans' at the Royal Oak Historical Society Museum, 1411 W. Webster Rd. The museum is open Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday from 1 - 4 p.m.

The City of Royal Oak & Michigan Battle of the Buildings are partnering to offer Royal Oak businesses, organizations, and community buildings the opportunity to lower their building energy use and take advantage of free services and funding.

Buildings that sign up will receive the following benefits:
💠 Get FREE energy benchmarking for one year
💠 Receive a FREE energy walkthrough and recommendations from the Small Business Association of Michigan
💠 Receive a building scorecard
💠 Get access to utility rebate matching

The Michigan Battle of the Buildings is a state-wide awards and recognition program open to various building types in the state of Michigan for achievements made in energy use reduction. There is no cost to join or participate.

Woodward Ave Corridor Plan

EXPLORE THE WOODWARD CORRIDOR PLAN and give your feedback!

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) is developing an M-1 (Woodward Avenue) Corridor Plan  to create a comprehensive vision that balances the needs of all users. Here's what the plan will do:

  • Analyze operations and safety for all road users 
  • Assess pavement needs and prioritize future projects 
  • Consider environmental, community, historic preservation, and economic goals.
  • Evaluate infrastructure, geometric, safety, and operational needs for all transportation modes.
  • Coordinate with public transit studies by RTA, SMART, and DDOT.
  • Integrate sustainability and climate resilience best practices.
  • Establish construction cost estimates, project prioritization, and timelines based on current funding.

This plan covers Woodward Avenue from Adams Road in downtown Detroit, through Royal Oak, and continues to the Woodward Loop in Pontiac.

MDOT is committed to involving 11 communities, including ROYAL OAK, two counties, four modes of public transportation and spans a distance of over 20 miles in length.
