No Mow May

No Mow May Returns

Earlier this week, the Royal Oak City Commission approved a resolution for No Mow May, allowing residents to give their lawns a break and encourage local biodiversity.

No code enforcement notices for overgrown lawns will be issued during the month of May. Participation in No Mow May is completely VOLUNTARY.

If you're interested, you can pick up a special lawn sign at City Hall for just $5. The signs are weather-resistant and can be used year after year. You can find them at the Treasurer's Office on the first floor of City Hall, 203 S Troy St.

Explaining your landscaping choices to neighbors and passersby helps them see that not mowing isn't neglect, but a deliberate effort to create wildlife habitat.

While posting signs is an effective way to educate others about the benefits of less mowing for bees and other pollinators, PLEASE NOTE, that you DO NOT need to purchase a sign to participate.

Improving Royal Oak

Pardon our cones, we're improving!

In case you missed it, we have been busy updating Downtown Royal Oak's roadway surfaces! Currently in progress (and nearing completion in the coming two weeks), we are resurfacing roadways around town:

  • E. Second (S. Main to Alleyway)
  • E. Fifth (S. Main to S. Williams)
  • E. Sixth (S. Main to S. Williams)
  • S. Lafayette (11 Mile to W. Fourth)
  • W. Fourth (S. Lafayette to S. Washington)
  • W. Sixth (S. Lafayette to S. Washington)
  • W. Seventh (S. Lafayette to S. Washington)

Please also watch out for the concrete repairs currently happening as a result of our upgrade to Mast Arm traffic signals. These traffic signals are not only more beautiful than the traditional pole and wire hung signals, they are also safer! Please watch for these repairs at the following locations:

  • Intersection of S. Washington and W. Fourth
  • Intersection of S. Washington and W. Sixth
  • Intersection of S. Lafayette and W. Fourth

ALL BUSINESSES ARE OPEN DURING IMPROVEMENTS! PLEASE SUPPORT LOCAL DURING THIS SLOWED TRAFFIC TIME IN THESE AREAS!

Charity hockey game. Click to open details.

After a small hiatus, members of the Royal Oak Police & Fire Departments have decided to once again team up to play the Detroit Red Wings Alumni. All proceeds benefit the Love, Team Tessa foundation and their fight to end childhood neuroblastoma cancer. Hope to see you there.
