Status of 2020 Construction Projects


The governor has authorized construction operations to begin again starting on Thursday, May 7th. The city's contractors are required to submit a COVID-19 safety plan to the city engineer for approval and are required to have an on-site supervisor in charge of monitoring COVID-19 safety procedures.

CAP1909 MDOT 14 Mile Road Resurfacing

Contractor: Florence Cement Company


The north half of 14 Mile Road is currently closed for the second phase of construction with traffic shifted to the south side of the roadway. One travel lane is open in each direction. Left turns are prohibited at several side streets along the corridor.

The week of June 8th, the contractor is working on pavement base repairs. Some areas of concrete have already been poured and are curing.

CAP1910/2010 Water Main Improvements

Contractor: FDM Contracting, Inc


The city's contractor has been authorized to use the northeast section of VFW Park for construction staging and material storage. The area will be fenced off for public safety. Vehicles will enter/exit using Campbell Road and Sixth Street. Once the project is complete, the disturbed areas will be re-graded and restored with topsoil and seed. The contractor will also make some park improvements by planting new trees and installing new picnic tables.

E. Harrison Avenue - The week of June 8th, pavement restoration will continue on E. Harrison Avenue. The contractor will be working on restoring sidewalks and approaches.

Fifth Street - Water main installation on Fifth Street is finished and the first connection was completed today. This week the contractor will begin transferring individual water services to the new water main and replacing known lead and galvanized services.

Seventh Street, S. Rembrandt Avenue & Alley - Water main installation is complete on Seventh Street, S. Rembrandt and the adjacent alley. The new mains will undergo testing this week.

S. Altadena Avenue - Pavement removal and water main installation will begin the week of June 8th.

CAP2050 CDBG Judson Avenue Paving

Judson Avenue from Prairie Avenue to Harvard Road

Contractor: Mark Anthony Contracting, Inc


The city's contractor has finished pouring the new roadway pavement. It will remain closed during the week while the concrete cures. Weather permitting, the contractor plans to return later this week to prepare the sidewalk and approaches for new concrete.

CAP2015 Asphalt Resurfacing Improvements

Contractor: AJAX Paving Industries


Sunset Boulevard - The contractor will be finishing intersection work along Woodward Avenue at Greenleaf Drive/Sunset Boulevard the week of June 8th. They will also be starting work on the east side of Sunset, removing and replacing curbing and driveway approaches.

McDonald/Lloyd intersection, Murdock Avenue, & Vinsetta Boulevard - The contractor is beginning work the week of June 8th, removing and replacing concrete curbing.

Maple Avenue - The contractor plans to begin work on the east side of the roadway towards the end of this week or beginning of next week, depending on weather.


CAP2015 Phases

CAP2009 Lincoln Avenue Resurfacing

Lincoln Avenue from Woodward Avenue to Lafayette Avenue
Contractor: Asphalt Specialists, Inc


Lincoln Avenue will be closed to traffic during construction and only one-way traffic will be allowed on Lincoln Avenue, eastbound, between Woodward Avenue and Lafayette Avenue.

The contractor plans to finish work on the new curbing along the north side of the roadway the week of June 8th. Weather permitting, the contractor also plans to pour the new driveway approaches on the north side later in the week.

CAP2035 Road Reconstruction Improvements

Contractor: Mark Anthony Contracting, Inc


Delaware Avenue - The week of June 8th, the contractor will be grading and preparing the roadway for new pavement and curbing.

Knowles Street - The contractor will be forming and pouring the new pavement this week. Once complete it will remain closed while the concrete cures.

Lenox Avenue - The contractor plans to begin pavement removal on Lenox Avenue this week.
