I Love Royal Oak Drawing Contest

WHO:
Any K-12 student who is enrolled in the Royal Oak School District.
Contest divisions are Grades K-5, Grades 6-8, and Grades 9-12.
WHAT:
Create a two-dimensional artwork that shows what you love about Royal Oak! This can be any place, idea, or feeling that shows what you love about Royal Oak and why you love being a part of the Royal Oak community. The prompt of “what I love about Royal Oak” should be clear for full scoring consideration.
WHY:
Winners from each contest division will be awarded monetary prizes. All participating students will receive a certificate, a special Royal Oak sticker, and have their art displayed around Downtown Royal Oak businesses during the month of March.
- Prizes are as follows:
- High School (Grades 9-12)
- First Place = $750
- Second Place = $500
- Third Place = $250
- Middle School (Grades 6-8)
- First Place = $500
- Second Place = $250
- Third Place = $100
- Elementary School (Grades K-5)
- First Place = $250
- Second Place = $150
- Third Place = $100
- High School (Grades 9-12)

Qualifying entries will be accepted until February 28, 2025 at 12:00 PM (Noon).

Artwork must be submitted to the following locations within the time frame indicated in the When section:

- Royal Oak Public Library, Youth Services, 222 E. Eleven Mile
- Monday - Thursday: 9AM - 8PM

HOW: ARTWORK REQUIREMENTS
Artwork submittals must meet the following requirements:
- Entry must be completed on an 8.5”x11” sheet of plain white paper. Oversized artwork will not be accepted.
- Artwork must be drawn VERTICALLY (portrait). Horizontal artwork will not be recognized, and all juried evaluation of the artwork will be done from a vertical perspective.
- All artwork must be ORIGINAL. NO traced, trademarked, or copyrighted characters such as Disney, superheroes, cartoons, etc. No “copycat” ideas of artwork from other artists. Artwork must be truly the work of the student and represent the age, grade, and skill of the student.
- Do not sign or write a name on the front of the artwork. Name should be included on the entry form and attached to the submission using a paperclip, please do not staple the artwork.
- Artwork must be two-dimensional using mediums such as pencil, ink, crayon, colored pencil, etc.
- Artwork may not have been previously submitted to the 2024 I Love Royal Oak contest.
- Artwork must be completed and submitted by ONE student, no group submittals.
- Each student may submit only one artwork for consideration.
- Artwork must be accompanied by a signed and completed permission waiver. Artwork missing guardian contact information will not be considered.
- Artwork must be titled and accompanied by a brief artist statement. Artist statements should be kept to around 3 sentences and submitted using the attached form.
ALL ENTRIES MUST HAVE A COMPLETED ENTRANCE FORM WITH PARENT PERMISSION AND COMPLETE ARTIST STATEMENT SHEET.
