- A valid Royal Oak Public Library card starting with 29065.
- A computer with Internet access.

- You can use the following devices with the Adobe EPUB and PDF eBooks on OverDrive.
- Amazon Kindle (step-by-step instructions)
- No extra software is needed on your computer to transfer Kindle eBooks to your Amazon Kindle. Upon checkout on OverDrive, you will be redirected to Amazon.com and prompted to sign-in with your Amazon account. Make sure you sign in with the sign account you used when setting up your Amazon Kindle.
- Barnes & Noble Nook (step-by-step instructions)
- In order to transfer Adobe eBooks to a Barnes & Noble Nook, you have to download Adobe Digital Editions software to your computer and install it. The Nook also must be activated using the same Adobe ID you use when you configure Adobe Digital Editions.

- Sony Reader (step-by-step instructions)
- In order to transfer Adobe eBooks to a Sony Reader, you have to download and install Sony Reader Library software on your computer in addition to the Adobe Digital Editions software.The Sony Reader also must be activated using the same Adobe ID you use when you configure Adobe Digital Editions. Some older Sony Readers require a firmware update in order to support Adobe eBooks. Please see the Sony website for help updating the firmware of your older Sony Reader.

- Android devices and Apple iPhone/iPod Touch (step-by-step instructions)
- You can download Adobe eBooks directly to your Android or iPhone/iPhone Touch device using the OverDrive Media Console App. An App for the Apple iPad is coming soon.

- Amazon Kindle (step-by-step instructions)
- The Mobipocket eBook file type is no longer supported by OverDrive.
