Update from ROPL on the status of Kindle titles on OverDrive (edited 2/27/2012):
Many book publishers were not happy with OverDrive's decision to allow the checkout of Kindle titles to be routed through Amazon's website. This is a huge breach of library patron privacy as checkouts are being handled by a 3rd party. As a result of the relationship between OverDrive and Amazon, many publishers have removed their Kindle titles from OverDrive or have put limits on how they are to be downloaded.
For Kindle titles on OverDrive, there are currently two possible methods for acquiring titles. The following messages are displayed in the descriptions of the titles on OverDrive.
The first message says "Use on: Kindles and free Kindle apps". This means that the title can be downloaded wirelessly to your Kindle device or Kindle app on your Apple or Android device. An alternative method is that it can be downloaded and transferred via USB to a Kindle device only.
The second message says "Use on: Kindles and free Kindle apps via USB only". This is an incorrect statement as they can only be downloaded and transfered to a Kindle device, not an app on your Apple of Android device. I called and spoke to OverDrive support and they confirmed the incorrect message. They are working to change the message to something like "Use on: Kindle devices via USB only."
A new Royal Oak Public Library card beginning with 29065 is required for access to OverDrive. If your card begins with 29082, please visit the Library to get your new card.
Due to patron demand, check out periods have changed to 14 days for eBooks and Audiobooks.

... Why was Recorded Books canclled. I really like the fact that if i couldn't find a certain author or a book in a series a could go to Recorded books and find it. Is there anyway we could get it back or incorporate some of the now missing authors like Jo Beverley, Linda Needham, Linda lael Miller, Katie macallister and just to mention a few to overdrive. I know some of the authors like Stephanie Laurens, Lisa Jackson and a few others are on overdrive but there was a lot more books by these authors on recorded books in the wma or mp3 format which i like. There are some in epub or ebook but i only do audio book. I know unfortunately for me and some of my friends who i work with because of our jobs we can only listen while we work. Will they be able to get some of the missing authors to overdrive. Also the fact that while i have checked out the limit on Overdrive i can still check out on Recorded Books and still listen to them. |
