2012 Adult Summer Reading Program

Adult Summer Reading registration begins Saturday, June 9 at 10:00 AM in the Friends Auditorium at the same time children and teens are signing up for summer reading.This year’s theme salutes the joys of what you can find Between the Covers. The focus will be books exploring all things pertaining to night, be it the power of dreams or the beauty of the stars in the sky. Our prize raffles will be back and there will be plenty of bookmarks with suggested reads tied to our theme.

2012 Teen Summer Reading Program

Read for fun, read for information, surf the web, listen to audio books, come to our summer activities at the library. Enter our weekly prize drawings! Choose a free book!

It’s easy: for every hour of reading, surfing the web, or listening to audio books, and/or attending or assisting a summer program at the Library, fill out an entry form and you are eligible for the weekly prize drawing. Finish a book? Attend a teen program or help with a youth program at the Library? Fill out a form that enters you into the grand prize drawing to be chosen at our Teen Summer Reading Finale on Thursday, August 2.

Registration begins Saturday, June 9. In-person registration only on June 9; starting June 11 online, by phone, or in person.

June is Aphasia Awareness Month

aphasiaIn June of 2008, Congress declared June National Aphasia Awareness Month! According to the National Aphasia Association, about 1 million Americans are affected by Aphasia; it is more common than Parkinson's Disease, cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy. More than 100,000 Americans acquire the disorder each year. However, most people have never heard of aphasia. Aphasia as an acquired communication disorder that impairs a person's ability to process language, but does not affect intelligence. Aphasia impairs the ability to speak and understand others, and most people with aphasia experience difficulty reading and writing.
