It's here!!! An opportunity to show your art and be part of Royal Oak history.

What: The Art Contest is an adjunct to the Royal Oak Time Capsule Project which celebrates the lives and times of Royal Oak in 2011. The time capsule will let people in 35 years know what we were all about. Photographs of winning art entries will be placed in the time capsule. All art contest participants will have their names included in the time capsule.

Who: Any person who is a resident of Royal Oak; works, goes to school, or community college in Royal Oak; is a member of a church, service organization, or club that meets in the City of Royal Oak is eligible to enter this contest.

Fees & Awards: The art contest is broken into the following age-based categories upon artists’ status as of March 1, 2011. There is will be a 1st, 2nd and Honorable mention in each category as well as a People’s Choice Award.

Along with the prize, all 1st place winners will have a photograph of themselves with their artwork included in the time capsule. Second place, Honorable Mention and People’s Choice Award will have a photograph of their artwork included in time capsule. All art contest participants will have their names included in the time capsule. Entry fees are payable by check to Friends of Royal Oak Public Library.

Criteria: Recent 2D and low relief artwork only, including but not limited to drawing, collage, painting, photography, mixed media, print making, and digital art relating to the theme “Snapshot Royal Oak 2011”. Artwork must be presentable & ready for display, no frames. Due to space constraint size is limited to 18" x 24". Artwork must be suitable for family viewing.

When & Where: Artwork is to be delivered in person to the Royal Oak Public Library on Friday, September 16 from 2:00 - 5:00 PM and Saturday, September 17 from 10:00 AM - 1:00 PM with a completed application form-see reverse for application form. Artwork will be on display at the library from September 19 to October 7. People’s Choice Award voting from September 19 to Sept. 26. Time Capsule implant celebration and Art Award Ceremony on Saturday, October 1 at 1:00 PM. Pick up artwork Saturday, October 8 from 11-00 AM - 2:00 PM.
