Actor Al Pacino and Jack Kevorkian Known across the world for his advocacy of physician-assisted suicide, Royal Oak patrons and staff knew Jack Kevorkian as a kind, elderly man. He’d often stop in the library to do research and use our computers. His patience with people who recognized him knew no bounds. In honor of his death, and as our way of remembering Dr. Kevorkian, the library has put up a small display of books and media about him. Among the titles is the recent HBO film entitled You Don’t Know Jack. And don't forget to visit our Local History Room for newspaper clippings/articles about Dr. Kevorkian.

So? Jewish people in Nazi Germany were convicted of "crimes." Just because the courts say something is a crime doesn't make it so! What's a crime was the way Dr. Kevorkian was kicked out of society for helping end suffering when nobody else had the guts to do so.

My heart is saddened that you don't have all your facts straight about this compassionate and brilliant man.

It is a great regret that Dr. Kevorkian's is a hand I will never get to shake. He sounded like an amazing person and someone who I would have enjoyed talking to. However, I did write him a letter in April, before he got sick, and although he never wrote back, I did find out that he read and enjoyed the satire of the anti-abortion movement that I enclosed with the letter (I have my ways). Here's a tribute I wrote in light of his death: http://inyourfacenewyorker.blo...-6311.html

This is the satire I sent him. It's called "The Menstruation Ban Trilogy": http://inyourfacenewyorker.blo...ilogy.html

I live in Minnesota, but just wanted to comment about Dr.Jack's passing. I think in time, we will see how right and full of compassion he was.

I was fortunate to have spoken with Dr.Kevorkian a few times at the Farmers Market and found him to be as I suppected after I read his book on the seldom known ninth amendement, a man whose intelligence, courage and sincerity dwarfed the faculties of his persecutors and prosecutors. Men and women camulflaged in professional regalia who intentionally pervert without mercy a flawed system to attain their own nefarious ends. Dr.Kevorkian should have received the Congressional Medal of Honor for giving up his life to defend us from unecessary suffering brought about by intentional neglect coming from an unholy alliance of religion, for profit medicine and paid off cryto-facist politicical hacks. His struggles and writings should be required reading for all those entering the legal, and medical arts.
