The Music of George Gershwin
Tuesday, November 04
07:00 PM - 08:30 PM
Stu Johnson, Royal Oak resident and frequent speaker at the Royal Oak Library, will be returning on Tuesday, November 4 at 7:00 pm with his presentation, Rhapsody in Blue - the Music of George Gershwin. In his short life and meteoric rise to fame, George Gershwin composed some of the greatest music of the 20th century. His creation of mainstream music is equal to that of the other outstanding composers, such as Richard Rodgers, Harold Arlen, and Cole Porter. Rhapsody in Blue is thought of as one of his most famous works and by using recorded music and hundreds of slides, this program will include most of his classic songs, including: The Man I Love, Fascinating Rhythm, But Not For Me, Soon, Nice Work If You Can Get It, Love Is Here To Stay, Embraceable You and many, many more. Gershwin was not only a Pop/Jazz composer whose music entered the mainstream, but in the more classical genres as well. His Porgy and Bess is the greatest American opera of all time.
