June Arbutus Berryman Wells (1918-2011)

June Arbutus Berryman Wells age 93 passed away in Traverse City Mich. on May 29 2011 after a very short illness.Born April 24 1918 in Dodgeville Wis. June was the third of five children born to Curtis Berryman and Sylvia Liddicoat Berryman. She had two older brothers Lloyd and Jack and two younger brothers Richard who died in the Pacific in WWII and Robert. When she was seven the family moved to Ferndale Mich. She joined the Ferndale First Methodist Church where she was a loyal generous member until she moved to Traverse City at age 91. She married George Byron Wells Jr. in 1938 and they promptly had three sons and a daughter Thomas Byron Douglas John Robert Charles and Kathryn Ann "Nan" Little. She is survived by her brother Robert her four children seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren each who was loved beyond measure.When George died in 1972 June stepped out on her own traveling by herself to China the Holy Land Oberammergau throughout the U.S. and many times to Costa Rica to visit son Robert. She never remarried keeping so true to the honored memory of George that Mitch Albom selected her to be featured in an article in Parade Magazine about people who stayed faithful to their spouses despite being widowed at an early age. Five weeks ago the day after her 93rd birthday she hiked the Empire Trail to the bluff overlooking Lake Michigan in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. She never wanted to miss a thing. June was loved for her ever-positive attitude her generosity her sweetness of spirit and her strength and determination to make the best of every situation. She believed you could always control your attitude and with her faith to support her her attitude was always positive. She lived a life to be celebrated; hers is not a death to be mourned.Per her wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service is planned for August at a time and place to be announced. Gerald Elmer Brenton age 84 of Troy Mich. passed away on June 2 2011 at Cherrywood Nursing Center Sterling Heights Mich. Gerald was born on October 14 1926 in Detroit Mich. He retired from the Hazel Park Fire Department in 1986. Gerald liked to fish hunt and spend time at his second home in Hillman Mich. He served in the Navy during World War II and was honorable discharged on February 8 1946. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Shirley Brenton. Father of Linda (Gary) Finzel. Grandfather of Bryan (Carissa) Finzel and Cindy Finzel. Great-grandfather of Carter and Ashton. Brother of Judy (Steve) Walter. Gerald was predeceased by a son Ronald Brenton. Elizabeth Nan Dimitry age 59 a longtime resident of Ferndale died Tuesday May 31 2011.She was born February 17 1952 in Tucson Arizona at the Davis-Monthan Air Force Base where her father was a Staff Sergeant.Nan graduated from Ferndale High School where she played the viola in the school orchestra. She graduated from San Diego College in California with a degree in photography and the University of Michigan where she was awarded for her film script writing. Nan was an advocate for the handicap. She wrote several articles in the Tribune opposing assisted suicide and spoke in Lansing on behalf of the handicap. She was appointed by the Ferndale Council to research accessibility in local restaurants. Nan was a master gardener loved animals and was a skilled artist in water color and oil.Survived by her mother Betty; brother Doug; uncle John; her dearest friend Duane Davis; and several cousins. Visitation Monday 2-9 p.m. at Spaulding & Curtin Funeral Directors Ferndale and Tuesday 11:30 a.m. until funeral service Noon at St. Luke Episcopal Church Ferndale.
