Mary (Mae) Whyard

Mary (Mae) Whyard, 97, of Royal Oak, died Jan. 11, 2008, at Alexander Mercy Living Center, Royal Oak. She was born Jan. 23, 1910, in New York City, N.Y. Mrs. Whyard made her home Royal Oak in 1934. She was a supervisor at AT&T in New York City. She operated a news stand across from the Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak and owned and managed apartment complexes. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Royal Oak for over 65 years and a 36-year member of the Eastern Star. She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Whyard, in 1986. She is survived by her children, James L. (Rae Ann) of Royal Oak, John C. (Sharon) of Royal Oak, Thomas E. (Susan) of Upper St. Clair, Pa.; she was the aunt of Bob Swickle and Kathy Choate and extended nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Chuck, Mike, Pamela Edmunds, Jennifer Zubeck, Steven, Kristen Swentoski and Rob Whyard; and 17 great-grandchildren. Hazel Irene Coyle

Hazel Irene Coyle, 93, of Rochester Hills, formerly of Royal Oak and Forest Lake, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2008, at her home. She was born Aug. 17, 1914, in Waubay, S.D., to Hans and Alice Christenson. Mrs. Coyle retired from the Royal Oak and Oak Park school systems where she worked in food service. She was a longtime member of Big Beaver United Methodist Church. Surviving are her children, Gerald (Nancy) Coyle of Leonard, Linda Avedian of Rochester Hills and Greg Coyle of Madison Heights; sister, Alice Ristvedt of South Dakota; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas, in 1991. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today and 1 p.m. Friday until service at 2 p.m. at the Kinsey-Garrett Funeral Home, 420 S. Susan Lynn (nee Oleksy) Her-shock, 38, a lifelong resident of Hazel Park, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2008. She was born March 7, 1969, in Detroit. Mrs. Hershock loved sports and coached Little League baseball. She was a big University of Michigan fan. She graduated from Dorsey Business School. Surviving are her husband, Geoffrey Hershock, whom she married March 4, 1992; child, Cortney Hershock; father, Jerry Oleksy; and sister, Sharon muck. She was predeceased by her mother, Patricia. Johanna M. Iveson

Johanna M. Iveson, 81, of Royal Oak for more than 60 years, died peacefully Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at home with her family near. She was born Feb. 24, 1926, in Detroit. Mrs. Iveson was predeceased in 1977 by her husband, John E. Iveson; and a son, Jim Iveson. Surviving are her children, John E. Iveson, Robert Iveson, Mike (Alexis) Iveson and Kathleen lye-son; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Memorial service, 11 a.m. Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church, 3506 Rochester Road, Royal Oak, with the Rev. Mary C. Marshall

Mary C. Marshall was born Aug. 21, 1928, to John and Georgia Hemler. She died Jan. 16, 2008. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Rex Marshall, of 30 years; and five brothers and sisters. She is survived by her sisters, Agnes (Herman) Fortunate and Anna (Clark) Gilbert; and brother, Victor (Rosalie) Hemler. She leaves her children, James (Cheryl), John (Sheryl) and Lorna (Ronald Feld) Klemanski; and stepchildren, Rex Marshall Jr., Cynthia Dawson, Stephen Marshall, Elizabeth Larke, Sue Wierzbicki, Paul Marshall, Sally Suico, Amy Marshall, Nancy Marshall, Phyllis Clevenger, Marjorie Chandonais, and Kerry LaPointe. Mary is survived by 34 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was active in the Redford Presbyterian Church and an accomplished china painter. As Mary C. Klemanski, she was editor of three suburban Detroit weekly newspapers during the 1960s and a former president of Sigma Delta Chi. She retired from the Detroit Health Department. She earned a bachelor's degree and a master's of Urban Planning from Wayne State. Memorial service at Redford Presbyterian Church, 22122W. McNichols, Detroit, MI 48219, on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. reception immediately following. Donations may be made to Redford Presbyterian Church.
