Thelma L. Streetman

Thelma L. Streetman, 76, of Madison Heights since 1955, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, in South Carolina. She was born Dec. 30, 1931. Mrs. Streetman was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak, serving as a deacon and member of the Christian education committee. Her hobbies included sewing and seamstress work, bird watching and square dancing. She actually did the calling for round dancing. She and her husband were members of the Square Dance Factory Club and loved vacationing in Gaylord. She was predeceased by her husband, William J. Streetman, on Jan. 16, 2005. They were married June 4, 1955, in Detroit. Surviving are her children, William (Colleen) Streetman of Westerville, Ohio, Janet (Martin) Jankowski of Hazel Park and Nancy (Thomas) Kerr of Livonia; sister, Barbara Habermas of Plymouth; grandchildren, Andrew (Andrea), Terrence, Thomas, Paul and Elizabeth; and several nieces and nephews. Mary (Mae) Whyard, 97, of Royal Oak, died Jan. 11, 2008, at Alexander Mercy Living Center, Royal Oak. She was born Jan. 23, 1910, in New York City, N.Y. Mrs. Whyard made her home Royal Oak in 1934. She was a supervisor at AT&T in New York City. She operated a news stand across from the Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak and owned and managed apartment complexes. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Royal Oak for over 65 years and a 36-year member of the Eastern Star. She was predeceased by husband, Leonard Whyard in 1986. She is survived by children, James L. (Rae Ann) of Royal Oak, John C. (Sharon) of Royal Oak, Thomas E. (Susan) of Upper St. Clair, Pa.; she was the aunt of Bob Swickle and Kathy Choate and extended nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Chuck, Mike, Pamela Edmunds, Jennifer Zubeck, Steven, Kristen Swentoski and Rob Whyard; and 17 great-grandchildren. Betty "Bunny" Louise LaFaveCarrier, 73, of Clawson, died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2008, at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. She was born April 1, 1934, in Clawson. Mrs. LaFave-Carrier was an avid craftsperson who liked ceramics and stitching. She also enjoyed fishing, bowling and boating. Surviving are her husband, Clifford J. Carrier, whom she married Jan. 2, 1995; children, Rick (Patricia) LaFave, Lynne Smith, Laurie (Don) Neely and Mary (Jeff) Smith; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Dottie, Bill and Mike. Dorothy Pauline Jordan, 86, of Royal Oak, died Monday, Jan. 14, 2008, at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. She was born June 4, 1921, in Paragould, Ark. Mrs. Jordan was a member of the Royal Oak Church of Christ. She retired from the Madison Heights School District in the late 1980s. She loved traveling. She was predeceased by her husband, William. Mrs. Jordan is survived by her children, William (Linda), Cynthia (Bill) McMahon, John (Maria), Kathryn (Joseph) Maxwell, Elaine (Tom) Jackman and Lynda Pennington; grandchildren, Julie, Tiffany, Christopher, Caroline, Courtney, Taylor, Dorin, Brittney, Daniel, Jonathan, Melissa and Joy; and seven great-grandchildren. James Fancher Meek, 88, of Royal Oak, formerly of Detroit, died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak. He was born Sept. 5, 1919, in Nashville, Tenn., to the late Fred T. and Lydia Meek. Mr. Meek was an active Mason for 42 years. He was a past Master of Sojourner's Lodge No. 483 F & AM (Detroit); a World War II Army veteran in the European Theater, 4th Infantry Division, 8th Infantry Regiment; civil servant firefighter in Detroit; deacon at Woodward Avenue Presbyterian Church, Detroit; member of First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak for 45 years and served as an usher; member of the American Board of Opticianry; and a round and square dance participant for 30 years. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Walker Meek, whom he married Aug. 23, 1946, in North Augusta, S.C.; children, James L. (Lillian) Meek of Royal Oak, Martha (John) Deep of East Hanover, N.J., Kathleen (Richard) Vogl of Sterling Heights, and Kenneth R. (Diane) Meek of Auburn Hills; siblings, Richard (the late Helen) Meek of Grand Rapids, Robert D. (Margaret) Meek of Bingham Farms, and the late Fred T.
