Robert Staats, 70, a 40-year resident of Hazel Park, died Sunday, Feb. 24, 2008, at home. He was born Feb. 2, 1938, in Ohswehen, Ontario, Canada. Mr. Staats retired after working many years in the tooling industry for Ceratizit LLC. He enjoyed all sports. He was a loving husband and family man. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jean; children, Darrel (Tammy) Staats, Sharon Staats andJennifer (Timothy) Miller; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was predeceased by siblings, Gary, Diane, Eva, Brenda and Wilma. Eleanor E. Toth, 79, longtime Berkley resident, passed away Feb. 26, 2008, in Clarkston with her loving family at her side. She was born Oct. 22, 1928, in Ferndale to Peter and Mary Radassi. Mrs. Toth was a Berkley resident for 58 years. She was a constant caregiver with a life dedicated to her family. Mrs. Toth is survived by her husband of 60 years, Roland; children, Greg Toth of Mt. Clemens, Randy Toth of Southfield, Gary (Marianne) Toth of Marquette, Dan (Danielle) Toth of Clarkston and Chris (Shari) Toth of Clarkston; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and siblings, Antoinette, Lillian, Theresa, Henry and Rita. Joyce L. Countryman, 67, of Troy, died Feb. 17, 2008. Mrs. Countryman was an aspiring artist. She belonged to the South Oakland Art Association. Mrs. Countryman is survived by her husband, Ervin; sons, Ervin "Skip" II and Johnathon; grandchildren, Kelsey and Kyle; siblings, Joan Dowell, Gary Jenkins, Sharon Cox and Karen Jenkins, all of Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. Rosemary Bridget Gilbert, 71, of Royal Oak, died of cancer Feb. 26, 2008, in Highland Park. She was born Dec. 24, 1936. Mrs. Gilbert graduatedfrom St. Cecelia School in 1953. She worked as a secretary and homemaker. A longtime member of National Shrine of the Little Flower, she was active in various church committees. She enjoyed visiting Ireland, gardening, golf and bowling. Mrs. Gilbert lived in Royal Oak for 42 years. Mrs. Gilbert is survived by George R. "Richard" Gilbert her husband of 50 years; children, Maureen, Kristen (Michael) Krzystowczyk, Susan Johnson, Elizabeth (Brian) Chihak, Mark (Barbara), Thomas (Christine) and John (Andrea); and 17 grandchildren. Visitation, Friday, 2-8 p.m., and rosary, 7 p.m., will be at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Home, 2600 Crooks Road, Troy. Margaret Lucille (Prikasky) Newman, 77, of Troy, died Feb. 21, 2008, in Cobot, Ark. She was born May 11,1930, in Detroit. Mrs. Newman married the late Howard G. Newman Sr. onSept. 9, 1957, in Pontiac. She was a retired medical assistant. Mrs. Newman is survived by her children, Karen Zaremba of San Diego, Lorene (Edward) Nuguist of Freeland, Nancy (Don Morgan Jr.) Jacob of Bebee, Ark., and Peggy (Russell) Atkinson of Ward, Ark.; stepchildren, Howard (Karen) Newman Jr. of Beaumont, Calif, Ronald (Maryann) Newman of Phoenix and Janet Wallace of Irvine, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Marvin (Lucy) Prikasky of Alma and Stuart (Barbara) Prikasky of Alma. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard; son, Darrell Newman; stepdaughter, JoAnn Yorina; great-grandson, Cameron; and parents, Martin and Bernice. Prikasky.
