Virginia M. Brown

Virginia M. Brown (Schwab), 89, of Berkley, died Feb. 18, 2008. She was born Jan. 22, 1919, in Highland Park. Mrs. Brown attended Ferndale High School and Eastern High School. She worked for many years at Hagelstein's Bakery in Ferndale and was a lifelong metro Detroit resident. Mrs. Brown is survived by her husband, James R. Brown, whom she married July 11,1998; her children, Norris (Linda) Joyce, Marjorie (Peter) Lawrie and Judith (Fred) Hiegel; stepchildren Alan Brown, James M. (Denise) Brown and Karen (James) Clark; nine cherished grandchildren; and 12 beloved great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her first husband, Wilbert Joyce, in 1974, and by her siblings, Dorothy and Fred. Visitation Wednesday, 2-9 p.m., and funeral service Thursday, 11 a.m., will be at Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home, 2125 W.12 Mile Road, Berkley. Final resting place will be Oakview Cemetery. Frances M. Ackerman

Frances M. Ackerman, 86, of Royal Oak, died Feb. 19, 2008, at Shelby Nursing Center in Shelby Township. She was born Dec. 19, 1921, in Flint, to Leonard and Amy Ewers. Mrs. Ackerman graduated from Royal Oak High School in 1939 and attended Shapero School of Nursing and Providence Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse at Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, and Martin Place East Hospital, Madison Heights. Mrs. Ackerman is survived by her children, Peggy (Jerry) Moyer of Brighton, William (Donna) Ackerman of Macomb, and Roger (Cindy) Ackerman of Rochester Hills; sister, Polly Sackett of Plymouth; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Claude, whom she married Dec. 29, 1939; and sister, Marian Zinke. Visitation Wednesday, 5-8 p.m., and Thursday, 2-8 p.m., and service Friday, 1 p.m., will be at Kinsey-Garrett Funeral Home, 420 S. Lafayette, Royal Oak. Burial will be at Oakview Cemetery, Royal Oak. Henry William Campbell

Henry William Campbell, 81, of Ferndale, formerly of Royal Oak, died Feb. 17, 2008, at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak. He was born April 19, 1926, in Royal Oak to Guy and Frances Campbell. Mr. Campbell graduated from Royal Oak High School in 1944 and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He worked for the United States Postal Service in Berkley and Royal Oak for more than 30 years. He was a member of the NARFE and South Oakland Chapter 19 D.A.V. Mr. Campbell is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elizabeth; sons, Henry Worth Campbell of Bloomfield Hills, and Terrance Lee Campbell of Van Wert, Ohio; and sisters-in-law, Pearl Campbell of Indialantic, Fla., Margaret Gill of Royal Oak, and Mary Springstead of Royal Oak. He was predeceased by siblings Guy and Sara. Visitation,Thursday, 2-8 p.m., and service Friday, 11 a.m., will be at Kinsey-Garrett Funeral Home, 420 S. Lafayette, Royal Oak. William G. Gardner

William G. Gardner, 87, of Royal Oak, died Feb. 18, 2008. He was born July 17, 1920, to Bill and Florence Gardner of Tiffin, Ohio. Mr. Gardner was a World War II veteran, where he served as a staff sergeant, medical detachment, 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Division in the medical corps for five years in the European Theater. He was a 1949 graduate of Kent State University. Mr. Gardner retired as owner of Will Gard Sales Company. He was a member of the Masons and the Elks and remained active in the family business, Matrix Systems, until 2007. He enjoyed wintering in Clearwater, Fla., and spending time with his family, especially on their annual fishing and boating trips. Mr. Gardner is survived by his wife of 66 years, Violet Gardner; children, W. Kent Gardner, Scott J. (Debbie) Gardner, and Julianne Timney (Robert) Gardner; grandchildren, Bill (Sylvia) Gardner, Ginger Gardner (Mark) Timney, Heather Gardner, and Melissa Gardner; and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Victoria Gardner. A memorial service Saturday, 2 p.m, will be held at A.J. Desmond & Sons, 32515 Woodward. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or the Michigan Humane Society. Kent Evan Maynard, 41, of Warren, formerly of Ferndale, died Feb. 15, 2008, in Royal Oak. He was born Dec, 18, 1966, in Danville, Ind. Mr. Maynard is survived by his wife, Ann Marie Maynard, whom he married May 19, 2000; son, Christopher Michael Maynard of Warren; mother, Linda Lowe of Tenn.; and brother, Keith Maynard.
