Third-Thursday Book Discussion

The Third-Thursday group meets the third-Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM in the library. No registration is needed to participate. The book discussions are led by members of the group who volunteer to present the book, along with book reviews and biographical information about the author. Read To The Dogs

Registered therapy dogs are here to listen to children read to them in a one-to-one setting. It is fun and helps improve reading skills because the dog listens attentively and does not judge, laugh, or criticize. If you're in 6th - 12th grade, we want you to be a member of TAB (Teen Advisory Board). So far, we've had several meetings and we're off to a great start, but it's not too late to jump in. The group is in the midst of putting out monthly newsletters for teens by teens, buying video game equipment for tournaments, picking out movies to show, and much more!

Used Book Sales

Donations of books and audio-visual materials are always welcome. Most needed are hardcovers and paperbacks in good condition, magazines in very specialized areas, books about Michigan, and records, tapes, DVDs, and CDs. Please do not donate books that are musty, dirty, or torn, or magazines or textbooks older than 2005. Please leave donations on the cart next to the elevator on the main floor or on the yellow wagon at the Troy Street (staff) entrance. Staff will be glad to give you a receipt for tax purposes.

Investment Workshops

Join experts from the Michigan Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation for seven free, non-commercial financial workshops on Monday nights from February through May at the Royal Oak Public Library. These non-commercial presentations will not contain sales pitches for any particular products. The state is offering these programs free to Michigan citizens with the help of funding from the Investor Protection Trust in Washington, D.C.
