Dr. Donald E. Stanbury age 85 peacefully passed away Thursday evening December 8 2011 surrounded by his loving family. Dr. Stanbury was born to Edward and Muriel (Deneau) Stanbury in Detroit on October 5 1926. Don attended Royal Oak High School with his twin brother Harry where they were members of their 1944 high school State Championship Cross Country team. His high school diploma was received in 1947. Don served our nation in the United States Navy during World War II. Don married Norma Alexander on May 25 1958 in Washington Indiana. Don and Norma spent 53 loving years together. Don received his Bachelor of Science from Eastern Michigan University in 1951. He earned his Master's degree in 1954 from the University of Michigan and his Ph D in 1965 from Michigan State University. Dr. Stanbury was a teacher administrator and coach for over 40 years. Among his many positions he was a counselor and coach at Royal Oak Dondero High School Assistant Principal at Royal Oak Kimball High School and Assistant Principal at Warren High School 1976-1992. He served as a founding Board Member and Mediator for the Community Dispute Resolution Center. He enjoyed serving on the Board of Directors of the Bruin Club of Genesee County (Mott Community College). He proudly served as their Club President from 2005-2009. Don was a member of the Elks Lodge of Flint the American Legion and Grand Blanc United Methodist Church. Don loved sporting events. He enjoyed attending Central Michigan football games Mott basketball games GBHS football basketball and track and cross country meets. Don enjoyed people watching old movies and cars. He especially loved talking with friends and spending time with his family and grandchildren. Dr. Stanbury was preceded in death by his parents Muriel and Edward Stanbury and his twin brother Harry. Don is survived by his wife Norma; three children Edward of Grand Blanc Mich Thomas of Dallas Texas and Vicki Stanbury of Boynton Beach Fla.; granddaughter Courtney and grandson Spencer; daughter-in-law Kim Stanbury; special cousin Joan Comer and family; sister-in-law Phyllis Stanbury (Tom Cookingham) and family; Lynn (John) Newmeyer Gail (Mike) Gooch and Lauren (Cory) Millikan and many nephews nieces and friends. The family will receive friends at the Hill Funeral Home 11723 S. Saginaw Street Grand Blanc Saturday December 10 and Sunday December 11 2 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday December 12 2011 at Grand Blanc United Methodist Church of Grand Blanc 515 Bush Avenue Burial will follow at White Chapel Cemetery Troy.
