Donna J. McCabe, 75, of Durand, died April 28, 2008, at the Woodward Hills Nursing Home in Bloomfield Hills after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer. Mrs. McCabe will be remembered by her family for having a personality that attracted people wherever she went, many becoming lifelong friends. She graduated from Lincoln High School, Ferndale, in 1952 and still maintained friends from those associations. Since retiring she and her husband, Peter McCabe, married 54 years, spent winters in Hawaii and summers in Durand. Her abundance of energy motivated her to get involved in many activities, both in Hawaii and Durand. She is survived by her children, Mark (Rose) McCabe of Ortonville, Marybeth McCabe of Clair and Maureen Lassiter of Kalamazoo; and her step-mother, Beatrice Floyd (90) of Madison Heights; grandchildren Patrick, California, Katie, Annie, Ryan, and Molly of Ortonville, Missy and Joseph of Clair, and Zachary, Chad and Marc of Kalamazoo; siblings Dorothy Jones of Royal Oak, Nancy Sledge of Ferndale, Carolyn Beecroft of St. Thomas, Ontario, and Richard Jones of Livonia. Mrs. McCabe had the unique quality of sifting through a problem and coming up with the right solution. Everyone valued her opinion, and she had the unique ability to make people laugh. Even if you only met her once, her unique personality made a distinct impression in your memory. She was an unforgettable "character." At Mrs. McCabe's request, cremation has taken place. A private "Celebration of Life" luncheon will be held at a later date. The family requests any donations to be made to Beaumont Hospital Hospice, Royal Oak.
