William G. Gardner, 87, of Royal Oak, died Feb. 18, 2008. He was born July 17, 1920, to Bill and Florence Gardner of Tiffin, Ohio. Mr. Gardner was a World War II veteran, where he served as a staff sergeant, medical detachment, 141st Infantry Regiment, 36th Division in the medical corps for five years in the European Theater. He was a 1949 graduate of Kent State University. Mr. Gardner retired as owner of Will Gard Sales Company. He was a member of the Masons and the Elks and remained active in the family business, Matrix Systems, until 2007. He enjoyed wintering in Clearwater, Fla., and spending time with his family, especially on their annual fishing and boating trips. Mr. Gardner is survived by his wife of 66 years, Violet Gardner; children, W. Kent Gardner, Scott J. (Debbie) Gardner, and Julianne Timney (Robert) Gardner; grandchildren, Bill (Sylvia) Gardner, Ginger Gardner (Mark) Timney, Heather Gardner, and Melissa Gardner; and great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Victoria Gardner. A memorial service Saturday, 2 p.m, will be held at A.J. Desmond & Sons, 32515 Woodward. Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association or the Michigan Humane Society.
