HOUTTEMAN, RICHARD “HOOT” aka DICK, age 91. It is with deep and heavy sadness that we announce the death of Richard Houtteman, who passed on April 8 at Beaumont Hospital in Grosse Pointe after a brief illness. He was born in Detroit, the first born son of Richard Joseph Houtteman and Alvina (Schneider) Houtteman and they preceded him in death as well as his brother and sister, Lee John Houtteman and Audrey Depestal. Richard spent most of his life in St. Clair Shores and graduated from South Lake High School, where he first met Geraldine Violet Fuhs. She remained the love of his life through 70 years of marriage. Richard was born “German stubborn” with Belgium family values. His family was his pride and joy. He is survived by his wife, Geri; six children, Toni Houtteman, Richard “Mike” (Donna) Houtteman, Debbie (Lee) Arend, Jeff (Karen) Houtteman, Scott Houtteman, and Lee (Pam) Houtteman; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He is also survived by life long friends from Michigan Bell and many dear neighbors on Culver Street. His 91.9 years on earth were spent “living within his means” as a navy pilot, milkman, Michigan Bell linesman, chief switchman and engineer, hockey coach and referee, outdoorsman, gardener, golfer, Christmas tree salesman, euchre player and lover of Mr. C’s pizza and beer. Richard took fashion cues from no one. He could put together an entire ensemble for less than five bucks from his favorite Goodwill store. His signature look for family weddings included a pink sportscoat. Richard enjoyed a long life, surrounded by his loving family and many good buddies. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on May 7 at St. Isaac Jogues Church in St. Clair Shores. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the St. Isaac Jogues’ School technology fund or ; . Burial will take place in Grass Lake, Michigan, at a private cemetery, overlooking the Arend Tree Farm.Published in Daily Tribune on Apr. 19, 2015+Read More Share Listen to Obituary Remember Share a message, photo, or video below View all messages 6 "Love Ya Dad.
