Mary (Mae) Whyard, 97, of Royal Oak, died Jan. 11, 2008, at Alexander Mercy Living Center, Royal Oak. She was born Jan. 23, 1910, in New York City, N.Y. Mrs. Whyard made her home Royal Oak in 1934. She was a supervisor at AT&T in New York City. She operated a news stand across from the Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak and owned and managed apartment complexes. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Royal Oak for over 65 years and a 36-year member of the Eastern Star. She was predeceased by her husband, Leonard Whyard, in 1986. She is survived by her children, James L. (Rae Ann) of Royal Oak, John C. (Sharon) of Royal Oak, Thomas E. (Susan) of Upper St. Clair, Pa.; she was the aunt of Bob Swickle and Kathy Choate and extended nieces and nephews; grandchildren, Chuck, Mike, Pamela Edmunds, Jennifer Zubeck, Steven, Kristen Swentoski and Rob Whyard; and 17 great-grandchildren. Visitation, 2-8 p.m. Thursday at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W.11 Mile Road (four blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak; services, 11 am. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev.
