Barbara J. Keegan age 81 of Berkley for 62 years formerly of Royal Oak passed away peacefully Monday August 1 2011 at home. She was born on December 17 1929 in Royal Oak to Lyle and Helen Newberry. Born and raised in Royal Oak Mrs. Keegan graduated from St. Mary's High School. She worked as a secretary for the Berkley Public Schools for 18 years.A member of Our Lady of La Salette Catholic Church since 1948 she was active as a lector in BINGO the parish festival and the Ladies Guild. She was a member of Sigma Kappa Sorority the American Legion Auxiliary-Post 253 (Royal Oak) and was an active resident at the Oxford Towers. Most important was her unparalleled love for her family.Surviving are her children Nancy (Joe) McEvoy Mark (Nancy) Keegan and Jan (Dale) Hagland; sisters Marilyn "Pudge" (Jim) Wagner and Patricia Painter; grandchildren Andy (Julie) Mike (Kelly) Abby (Justin) Jimmy Maureen (Nick) Annie (Matthew) Adam (Lindsay) and Tommy; great-grandchildren Sloane Keira Ainsley and one more on the way and several loving nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband James whom she married on May 8 1948 in Royal Oak.; brother James (Margaret) Newberry and brother-in-law Jerry Painter. The family will receive friends Thursday 3-9 p.m. at the Sawyer-Fuller Funeral Home 2125 12 Mile Rd. (2 blocks west of Woodward) Berkley. Mrs. Keegan will lie in state Friday 10:30 a.m. until the time of Mass 11 a.m. at Our Lady of La Salette Catholic Church 2600 Harvard (Coolidge North of 11 Mile) Berkley.
