Helen M. Luoto, 78, a longtime resident of Ferndale, died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2007, in Alpena. She was born Jan. 26, 1929, in Detroit to James and Nellie Furze. Mrs. Luoto was a lifetime member of the Finnish Cultural Association in Farmington and the Ferndale Police Auxiliary. She worked for General Motors for 35 years as an office clerk in the personnel department. Mrs. Luoto was predeceased by her husband, John, whom she married Aug. 25, 1951, in Detroit. She is survived by her brother, Donald (Verna) Furze; niece, Tamar Furze; nephews, Kevin (Debbie) Furze, Bob Heikkila and Michael (Pam) Heikkila; and great nieces, Erin and Carly Furze.
