Mary J. Tarkington, 77, a longtime Royal Oak resident, died Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, at her daughter's home in Eastpointe. She was born March 24,1930, in Detroit to Charles and Mary Keller. Mrs. Tarkington was a registered nurse, working for the Red Cross until her retirement in 1995. She was a former Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She held her family together during tough times and adored her grandchildren. In later years she became an avid golfer. Mrs. Tarkington was predeceased in 2005 by her husband, John, whom she married in 1952 in Detroit. She is survived by her children, Andrew (Karen) Tarkington of Alpena, Sam (Patricia) Tarkington of Rochester Hills, Patti Jo Tarkington of Eastpointe, and Beth Aim (James) Tolfree of Three Rivers; grandchildren, Sarah, Brett, Scott, Drew, Ryan, Jaime, Marc, Kyle, Alex, Jacob, Matt and Stephen; and sister, Roberta of Florida.
