Russell Oscar Blanchard, 91, of Flint, died Friday, Nov. 16, 2007. He was born Jan. 10, 1916, in Detroit, to A. Clifford and Elizabeth Blanchard, and lived most of his life in the Detroit area, including many years in Ferndale. As a young man, Mr. Blanchard graduated from Detroit Ford Trade School and worked most of his life in the tractor division at Ford Motor Co., until his retirement in 1968. He was an avid golfer, having won many trophies, and participated in numerous bowling leagues. He was a member of the Lutheran church all his adult life and served in various areas including many years in the choir. He was married to Ruth Jarvi in 1938 and to Barbara List in 1992. Both preceded him in death as well as two brothers, Lyle and Roy. He is survived by sons, Russell (Sandy) Blanchard of Zeeland, and John (Pamela) Blanchard of Swartz Creek; four grandchildren, Holly (John) Willsea of Portland, Ore., Keely (Anthony) Dien of Fountain Valley, Calif, John (Jennifer) Blanchard of Walton, Ky., and Robert (Laura) Blanchard of Fenton; 14 greatgrandchildren; and various nieces and nephews. Cremation has taken place with a celebration of his life to be planned at a future date. Memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church, 8497 W. Miller Road, Swartz Creek, MI 48473.
