John E. Pounders, 78, of Madison Heights for 57 years, died Wednesday, Nov. 14, 2007 at home. He was born Oct. 3, 1929, in Florence, Ala. Mr. Pound- ers served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a long time member and elder at the Hazel Park Church of Christ. He retired from the Ex-Cell-0 Corp. in Highland Park. Following his retirement, he purchased and operated gas stations in Hazel Park and Center Line and also worked for many years at the Hoperoft Funeral Home. He will be missed by his family and his many friends. Mr. Pounders was predeceased Sept. 28, 2000, by his first wife, Oma Jean Pounders. Surviving are his second wife, Karen Pounders; children, Joanne (John) McClue and Janie (Chris) Manore; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild; mother, Lena Pounders; and sister, Wynez Mitchell. Visitation, 1-9 p.m. today at Hoperoft Funeral Home, 31145 John R, Madison Heights; services, 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home; burial, Christian Memorial Cemetery, Rochester Hills; online registry, www.hopcroftfuneraldirectors.com.
