George L. Matarwe, 60, of Clinton Township, died Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at home after a long and courageous battle. He was born April 23, 1947, in Jerusalem, Palestine. Mr. Matarwe was a bus driver for 17 years for the Macomb Intermediate School District where he cared and loved the special needs children. He was a member of the North Oakland Mopar Muscle Car Club, and the St. Lawrence Catholic Church. He will always be remembered and loved for his big smile and inspiration to others. He enjoyed work ing on his cars. He walked across the Mackinaw Bridge on Labor Day for the past 37 years. He was a 1965 graduate of Ferndale High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was predeceased by father, Lutfi Matarwe. He is survived by his wife, Veronica; mother, Fadwa Matarwe; sisters, Sylvia (John) Alm and Gloria Salem; mother and fatherinlaw, Josephine and Maurice Glorieux; sisterinlaw, Gloria (Mark) Viegelahn; nephews, Mark Viegelahn and Douglas Aldred; and niece, Lana Popata. Visiation, 29 p.m. Thursday and Friday at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, 3200 Schoennerr Road, Warren; Scripture service, 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home; additional visitation, 9:3010 a.m. Saturday at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 44633 Utica Road, Utica; Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church with Father Don LaCuesta officiating; burial, Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly; memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, to the George Matarwe family.
