John Douglas Ferriby, 44, of Royal Oak for 14 years, formerly of Troy for seven years, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at the Alexander Mercy Living Center, Royal Oak. He was born Nov. 15, 1962, in Saginaw. Mr. Ferriby graduated from Frankenmuth High School in 1981 and was an alumnus of Hope College. He was a "digital mercenary" who provided IT and technical assistance to local businesses. He was previously employed by EDS and Perot Systems. Mr. Ferriby also was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak, where he coordinated the South Oakland Shelter (S.O.S.) outreach ministry for 10 years. He also served on the board of deacons and the church computer community. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Terpstra Ferriby, whom he married Sept. 20, 1986, in Frankenmuth; children, Sarah, Douglas and Hannah Ferriby of Royal Oak; parents, Sally and the late Donald Ferriby of Frankenmuth; siblings, Martha Ferriby (Roger Rapoport) of Muskegon and Dr. Peter Ferriby (Rev. Dr. Rochelle Stackhouse) of Hamden, Conn.; and niece and nephews, William, Luke, Leah and Benjamin. Memorial visitation is 3-8 p.m. Saturday at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Home, 705 W.11 Mile Road, Royal Oak; additional visitation Sunday from 1 p.m. until the 2 p.m. memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church, 529 Hendrie Blvd., Royal Oak, with the Rev Dr. Thomas Rice officiating; inurnment, First Presbyterian Church Columbarium at a later date; memorials, MESP (for the children's education), c/o Terry and Barbara Knight, Somerset Financial Group, Inc., 2075 W.
