Donna M. Crowley (nee Metcalfe) of Ypsilanti died Sunday, Sept. 30, 2007, after living a life filled with the joy of seeking the positive side of all people and things, and helping others adopt the same perspective. She was at home with her loving husband and inseparable companion of 25 years, Dr. Dennis C. Crowley. Mrs. Crowley's infectiously effervescent spirit will never be forgotten. She was born in Detroit and grew up in Ferndale, graduating with honors from Ferndale High School in 1969. The first in her family to go to college, she graduated from the University of Michigan (Ann Arbor) in 1973 with a degree in education and subsequently taught emotionally challenged children at the Children's Psychiatric Hospital, Ann Arbor. Recognizing how much she enjoyed caring for those unable to care for their own needs, she returned to school and earned a nursing degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1980. She used her boundless energy and enthusiasm to benefit the patients of C.S. Mott Children's Hospital and St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Aim Arbor. She has served as an inspiring leader in many supervisory positions and has benefited the personal and professional lives of an uncountable number of employees and colleagues. She loved her family and friends most of all and we consider ourselves extremely blessed to have. shared this time together. We will all miss her very dearly. Mrs. Crowley was preceded in death by her father, Wilbert E. Metcalfe; and stepfather, Timothy J. Scannell. She is survived by her mother, Marion F. Scannell of Tinton Falls, N.J.; stepchild, Andrew (Katie) Crowley of Grosse Pointe; brothers and sister, Gary A. Metcalfe of Charlotte. N.C.. William E. (Norma Ngo) Metcalfe of Pearland, Texas, Nancy E. (Peter) Staats of Colts Neck. N.J.. and Robert E. (Paula) Metcalfe of Charleston, S.C.; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Thomas (Mary Kay) Crowley of. Fairfax, Va., Timothy (Missy) Crowley of Grosse Pointe, Mary (Larry) Zahra of Farmington Hills, Candace Crowley of Southfield, Brian (Marta) Crowley of Elk Rapids, Ann Crowley of Grosse Pointe, Dana (Shelly) Crowley of Sycamore, Ill., Susan Crowley of Grosse Pointe, Jeffrey (Colleen) Crowley of Caseville, and Rosanne (Frank) Koss of Beverly Hills; uncles and aunt, Donald (and the late Ruth) MacDougal, Virginia Wagner, Elton J. (Marta) Finley, and Henry (Sharron) Crawford; nieces and nephews, Jessica, Lauren, Alyssa, Dylan, Rachel, Meredith, Miranda, McNair; Lucy, Marin, Emma, Katie, Stacy, Tom, Jennifer, Amy, Michael, Allie, Page, Ava, Brad, Kate, Heidi, Iggy, Oona, Joel, Hanna, Marion, Cory, Christopher, McGregor, Kendall, Kelly and Rachael; and cousins and friends, including Lynda, Lynne, Norma, Kevin, Brian, James, Joan, Janet, Tim, Tom, Gloria, Anita, Cindy, Jenny, Jan, Jane, Mandy, Kate, and many more. Mrs. Crowley also was predeceased by brothers-in-law, David (Betty) Crowley of Grosse Pointe and Chad Crowley. There will be a celebration of Donna Crowley from 2-5 p.m. Oct. 20 at the Ann Arbor Women's City Club, Ann Arbor. All family, friends, colleagues and others who knew and loved Donna are welcome to come commemorate a life well-lived. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in the name of Donna M.
