Dale M. Young, of Palm Harbor, Fla., and formerly of Armada and Royal Oak, died on Friday, Sept. 29, 2007, in Pinellas, Fla. He was born Aug. 17, 1921, in Ecorse. Mr. Young graduated from Royal Oak High School in 1940 and worked at the Chrysler Tank Arsenal until joining the U.S. Marine Corps in 1942. He was in combat action with the Second Division at Tarawa in 1943 and on Siapan in 1944, where he was wounded. He received a discharge in 1945. In April, 1946, he began working for the Spiller Funeral Home in Royal Oak. In 1949, he graduated from Wayne State School of Mortuary of Science and in 1956 purchased the Tiffany Funeral Home in Armada. He and his wife owned and operated the Tiffany-Young Funeral Home until his retirement in 1980. He and his wife enjoyed Harsen's Island in the summer and winters in Florida. In March of 2006, they moved to Coral Oaks in Florida. He was a life member and a past president of the Armada Lions Club, a life member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, a life member of the Second Marine Division Association and also of the Armada Amvets, and DAV So. Oakland 19. He was also a member of Mount Clemens American Legion, St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Harsen's Island and of the East Lake United Methodist Church in Palm Harbor, Fla. He was a former member, former president and choir member of the Armada Congregational United Church of Christ. He was a past president of District No. 6 Michigan Funeral Directors Association. He helped organize the Armada Little League and coached the Tigers for four years. He also helped organize the Armada golf team and coached it for three years. He was a former member of the Armada Golf League, the Armada Fire Department, the Tarpon Woods Golf and Country Club and the board of directors of the Tanglewood Homeowner's Association. Surviving is his wife Evelyn (Simmons) Young, whom he married Aug. 10, 1946; children, Michael Young of Augusta, Nancy Young of Rochester; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild. He was predeceased by parents, Rev. John C. and Eula Elaine (Tuttle) Young; brother, John Gyles Young; and one grandchild. Visitation is 3-9 p.m. Monday at Tiffany-Young and Hauss Funeral Home, 73919 North Avenue, Armada. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Duane Kelsey officiating.
