William Henry Collins, 95, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, at his residence in Huntington Woods. He was born July 7, 1912, in Detroit, to the late Dr. Wilkie Collins and Louise Jane (Hunter) Collins, both of Huntington Woods. Mr. Collins was a resident of Huntington Woods since 1925. He attended Berkley High School in the 1920s. He started the Volunteer Fire Department in Huntington Woods and was the first fire chief/fireman. Mr. Collins retired in 1972 as a lieutenant for the Huntington Woods Police Department. He also was a member of the Metropolitan Club. Mr. Collins was predeceased by his wife, Athon (nee Ramage), on Aug. 27, 1992. They were married July 21, 1933, in Detroit. Surviving are his children, Louise Jane (Forest) Davidson of Gladwin, William H. (Linda B.) Collins of Sterling Heights, Thomas Douglas Collins of St. Clair Shores and John Hunter Collins of Warren; grandchildren, Sherry (Eric) Koerner, Gary Barrett, Tamara (Chris) Maher, Matt Davidson, Michelle (Jason) Allison, Cheryl Collins, Kelly Collins and Krista (Donald) Burton; 13 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Collins also was preceded in death by his brothers, Wilkie Collins of Berkley and Howard E. Barber of Oak Park.
