Douglas A. Whitehouse, 57, died at his home in Huntington Woods on Aug. 22, 2007, from complications of diabetes. He was born Jan.12, 1950, in Ann Arbor to the late Barbara and Dr. Walter M. Whitehouse, Sr. He was employed by SMART as a bus driver and dispatcher until his retirement in 2001 and served as an officer of his union. He was a longtime member of the Northwest Unitarian Universalist Church, where he was often the smiling face at the front door. His unwavering optimism and good humor will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Amy Bachelder; and their children, Daniel and Sam of Huntington Woods; brother, Dr. Walter M. (Rosanne) Whitehouse Jr.; sister, Mary (Jan) Barber; an stepmother, Rebecca Bonnell of Ann Arbor; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held on Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, at 1( a.m. at the Northwest Unitarian Universalist Church, 23925 Northwestern Hwy., Southfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, 24359 Northwestern Hwy., Southfield and/or the Memorial Fund of the Northwes Unitarian Universalist Church.
