Deckers, Albert Louis, age 92, of Center Line, passed from this life on December 9, 2014, after living a long, active and independent life. Al Deckers was born August 17, 1922, in Detroit, Michigan, to parents of Belgian decent, Irma and Louis Deckers. Al was predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Mary (nee Gallant) Deckers, his high school sweetheart. He was married September 9, 1944 in military uniform as he was a proud enlisted man of the United States Naval Forces. “Big Al” served his country as a fighter pilot in World War II in the Pacific Theater stationed on the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Salerno Bay. After the war, Al Deckers enjoyed a long career with Brinks Armored Car and was a Center Line Policeman Reserve. Al Deckers is survived by his children, Janice Radzitowski of Center Line; sons, Robert (Connie) Deckers of Mount Clemens and Scott (Laurie) Deckers of Texas. He was the proud grandfather of nine grandchildren, and great-grandfather to 13 great-grandchildren. Al Deckers will long be remembered as the loving patriarch of his family, a much respected gentleman, brave U.S. veteran, and most loyal of friends.
