Clark, Alton D., age 87, passed away peacefully in Petaluma, California Thursday, November 27, 2014 with his loving family at his side. Al, as he was known by friends and family, was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas and moved to Detroit, Michigan as a teenager. After high school, Al enlisted in the United States Army where he served for four years as a cook. He was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant. He then returned home to Michigan where he met and married Ruby Smith, the love of his life. Al and Ruby would have celebrated 62 wonderful years together on November 29, 2014. They made their home in Roseville, Michigan and raised their family. Al worked for Budd Wheel Corporation, an auto parts supply company for 43 years, retiring as a supervisor. In 1978, while working at Budd Wheel Co., he started Clark Transmissions with his son, Gary. Due to failing health, Al and Ruby moved to Petaluma, California this year, to be closer to Debbie, Philip and their extended family. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, loved his Detroit Tigers and was especially devoted to his family. His loving kindness and wonderful spirit will be deeply missed. Devoted husband of Ruby Clark. Loving father of Gary (Debbie) Clark, Debbie (Philip) LaCavera and Lisa Clark. Adored grandfather of Ryan Clark, Nicole Sohm (Charlie), Kristal LaCavera (Zack Rietzell) and Joseph LaCavera-Miller (Jeremy). Cherished great-grandfather of Tyler, Nathan, Adriana and Rylan. A celebration of Al’s life will be held Saturday, January 17 at 11 a.m. at Free Will Baptist Chapel, 302 E. 13 Mile Rd., Madison Heights, MI 48071. Memorial contributions in his memory may be made to Free Will Baptist Chapel or to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
