Whalen, Annalou (nee Ackerman) “Buttons”, age 83, passed away November 11, 2014. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, she had resided in Harrison and Clinton Townships for more than 80 years. Graduate of Mount Clemens High School Class of 1949. She had been involved in politics hosting a popular 1960’s political radio program “A Woman’s View” on local WBRB Radio and had been a delegate for the Republican National Convention. She was an owner of Whalen Marine Construction and later worked for Macomb County Community Services Agency, The US Army at Selfridge ANGB and for Spirit Airlines. A volunteer at the Macomb County Sheriff Department, membership coordinator for the MCHS alumni association and the Queen Mother of the Red Hat 49er’s. Predeceased by husband, Joseph William and survived by children, Michael Barry, Joellen (Michael) McCormick, Joseph Dale (Shannon) and Juliann (Paul L.) Cyman; grandchildren, Angelica, Shannon, Kelsey, Paul, Olivia, Lucas, Christopher, Shelbi and Courtney and by seven great-grandchildren. Cherished by her family and friends for her unique outlook on life, her sense of humor and for “telling it like it is”. Her indomitable spirit and talents will be missed.
