Elliott, Joseph P., February 26, 2015, of Higgins Lake, Michigan, died peacefully surrounded by his family. At the age of 16, he joined the army, serving overseas during World War II. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Service medal, Victory medal and Army of Occupation medal (Japan). He was discharged at the rank of Sergeant on December 26, 1946. Following his Army service, he joined the Merchant Marines. Joe retired from Dodge Main Local 3 in the position of Financial Secretary after 32 years of loyal service. He is predeceased in life by his daughter Carolyn Henderson. He is survived by his wife, Mary (Campbell) Elliott, his daughter, Evelyn K. Saari (Keith), his son, Joseph F. Elliott (Donna); stepchildren, Denise (Doug) Mooney, Mark Campbell, Jeff Campbell, and Kelly Campbell; eighteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Visitation at the Sterling Heights Chapel of Bagnasco & Calcaterra Funeral Home, 13650 E. Fifteen Mile Road (at Schoenherr) Monday 2-9 p.m. Funeral Tuesday 11 a.m. at the funeral home. He will be interred at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.
