Meyers, Jean Valerie, of St. Clair Shores, died on Valentine’s Day, Saturday, February 14, 2015. Jean, the eldest daughter of Louis and Freda Meyers, was born September 14, 1920 in Detroit, Michigan. She was the loving sister of the late Marilyn Carter and Doris Peters. A graduate of Southeastern High School in 1938, Jean was a member of the Ke-Ja-So Club, a group of close friends who attended Keating Elementary School, Jackson Intermediate School and Southeastern, and remained close throughout their lives. After graduation, Jean worked in the personnel office of Parke-Davis Company in Detroit. Also, during World War II, she was a “Gray Lady” at the Marine Hospital in Detroit and volunteered as a Troop Leader to the Girl Scout Troop of her younger sister, Doris. Jean accepted several overseas civil service positions after the war, whereupon she lived and worked in Japan, Germany and Sweden. Her initial journey to Japan included passage through the Panama Canal. Jean returned to the United States in 1957, and started work in 1958 as a Wayne County employee in the Friends of the Court and Prosecutor’s Office. Upon retirement, she lovingly cared for her adored father. Her life overseas spawned a love of travel, both internationally and with friends and family in the United States. Jean was very active in the St. Clair Shores Cruisers, taking day trips in and around southeastern Michigan and playing cards with her friends at Blossom Heath. Jean is survived by five nieces and one nephew, Cecelia, Karen, David, Carol, Janet and Sally. In addition, she is the great-aunt to ten nieces and nephews and great-great-aunt to three boys. She is also survived by her cousin, Rose Mary Young of Lafayette, Indiana. The family wants to thank the staff of Beechwood Manor, Dr. Alok Shukla and Seasons Hospice for their gracious guidance and care. There will be a celebration of Jean’s life Thursday, February 19 at noon at A.H. Peters Funeral Home, Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich.
