Turkey and Friends: Family

A live turkey and other feathered animals from the Bowers School Farm will visit along with some of the farm staff who will tell us more about these eggs-traordinary creatures.

Family Story Times: Ages 5 and Under

10:15 am -10:45 am

These 30-minute story times for ages five and under with their adults include stories, rhymes, finger plays, movement, and a craft. Limit 24.

Registration System for All Story Times

Story times are “Ticketed Drop-In” which means there is no advance registration. On the day of the program, visit the youth reference desk and pick up a numbered ticket which will be available 30 minutes before the program begins or when the library opens in the case of 10:15 AM programs. There will be a limited number of tickets available so please arrive early. With this system, people who arrive a few minutes early should be able to secure a ticket and no previously registered spots remain unused because of no-shows.

These story times for independent listeners include a variety of stories, movement, music, and an art or craft activity. Programs last about 45 minutes. Adults wait outside the story room. Limit 24.

Read to the Dogs for Independent Readers

10:30 am -12:15 pm
Registered therapy dogs are here to listen to children read to them in a one-to-one setting. It is fun and helps improve reading skills because the dog listens attentively and does not judge, laugh, or criticize. Registration is required for this program. Please phone 248-246 -3725 or sign up in person at the Youth Services Information Desk for a 20 minute time slot. Sponsored by the Friends of the Royal Oak Public Library.

Saturday Independent Movie: The Lesson (2014)

In a small Bulgarian town, Nade is an honest, hard-working elementary school teacher and devoted mother, struggling to keep her life together. Her unemployed, alcoholic husband has secretly spent their mortgage payments on booze, the agency where she translates legal documents for extra cash is going under, and a thief in her class has stolen the last of her money out of her purse. With few options left, Nade turns to a local loan shark for help, but with the reposession of her home looming, she finds herself with little hope. Resorting to measures her former self would have found depraved, Nade attempts one last desperate act to get the money she needs. In Bulgarian with English subtitles. 105 minutes.

Join us for an evening of relaxation and reminiscing as Royal Oak’s Stu Johnson returns to present his series, Travelogue in Jazz. Stu will take us on a trip to various cities, states and countries while listening to music associated with the specific places in the background. The particular city, state or country will be in the title of the musical piece or some songs will be recognizable as being connected to the country. Come see and hear how many you can pick out!
