Summer Book Clubs: Book Buddies Book Club

10:00 am -9:00 pm

Book Buddies is a book club for ROPL’s youngest independent readers, ages 5-8. Each participant will get their own copy of the book to keep when they sign up at the Youth Services Desk. Club meetings are 45-60 minutes and include activities, book discussions, and snacks based on the book. Limit 25 per session.

The Gold Medal Mess

The Gold Medal Mess is the first book in the MVP (Most Valuable Players) series by David A. Kelly. This book, set at an elementary school, features five friends who are getting ready for their school’s Olympics field day. There will be relay races, archery contests, and more! But not everyone wants to play fair – someone is trying to ruin the events! Can the kids in the Most Valuable Players Club solve the mystery, save the Olympics, and take home the gold?

Book pick up at Youth Services desk begins Monday, July 11.

ROPL has a book club just for kids ages 8-11! Join us for a lively book discussion, activities and a snack centered on the featured book. Participants will receive their own copy of the book when they sign up at the Youth Services Desk. Limit 15.

Navigating Early

When Jack Baker’s father sends him from his home in Kansas to attend a boys’ boarding school in Maine, Jack doesn't know what to expect. Certainly not Early Auden, the strangest of boys. Jack, feeling lonely and out of place, connects with Early, and the two become friends. The boys set out for the Appalachian Trail on a quest for a great black bear. Will Jack’s and Early’s friendship last the journey? Can the boys make it home alive?

Outdoor Family Story Times

10:15 am -11:00 am

Enjoy the fresh air along with some stories and activities on the library lawn. Bring a blanket or beach towel to sit on. No registration is required.

Will be held indoors in inclement weather.

Lego™ Time: Ages 5-12

2:00 pm -3:00 pm

Assemble a Lego scene and write about what is happening in it. Your Lego creation and story will be displayed in the library until the next Lego Time session. Registration is requested. Limit 36.

The Fossil Record

3:30 pm -4:30 pm

Take a look at actual fossils and find clues hidden within that will help us learn something about life millions of years ago. Participants will get to invent their own prehistoric animals, follow along in the story of fossilization, and learn about our planet’s various biologic and geologic processes. Presented by the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum. Registration is requested. Limit 30.

Summer Science Festival

7:00 pm -9:00 pm

The Summer Science Festival features a wide variety of unique, interactive projects that includes science experiments, ‘make and take’ activities and art creations. Make sure you allow enough time to try all nine activities!  Presented by the Ann Arbor Hands On Museum. This program lasts two hours.

Teen Volunteer hours

Volunteer this summer @ ROPL and earn community service hours for school. Tasks may include prepping crafts, organizing, cleaning toys & books, and other essential behind-the-scenes activities. Registration is requested. Limit 10 per 1-hour session.
