07:00 PM - 08:30 PM
Stu Johnson, Royal Oak resident and frequent speaker at the Royal Oak Library, will be returning on Monday, November 4 at 7:00 pm to premier his presentation of the Swing Era.
Between 1935 and 1945, America emerged from the Great Depression and suffered through World War II. It was also the time of the Big Bands swinging to the music of the great American songbook. Jazz music was the popular music of the day and helped Americans feel good and forget their woes, if only for a short time. The Big Bands played a major role during this time with hundreds of bands playing all over the country. But a few became the best, and Stu’s presentation will count down to number 1 those Big Bands that were most influential or important or the most popular.
